Crown of Thorns is a hardy, spiny succulent native to Madagascar. It's known for its vibrant, colorful flowers (which are bracts surrounding tiny, yellow flowers) and thick, thorny stems. This plant is commonly grown as a shrub or small tree and is ideal for warm, sunny gardens or as a houseplant in dry, sunny locations. The bracts come in a variety of colors, including red, pink, orange, and yellow, making it a striking ornamental plant.
Sunlight - Crown of Thorns thrives in full sunlight and requires at least 5–6 hours of direct sunlight daily to encourage abundant flowering. It can tolerate some light shade, but flowering may be reduced.
Water:
- Water the plant deeply and infrequently , allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is a common cause of root rot. During the growing season (spring and summer), water every 1-2 weeks. In the winter, reduce watering as the plant goes into dormancy.
Temperature:
- This plant thrives in warm conditions and is tropical in nature. It prefers temperatures between 60°F and 80°F (16°C to 29°C). It is frost-sensitive and should be protected from cold temperatures. If grown indoors, ensure it’s kept in a warm area with good light.
