kalanchoe

Kalanchoe is a popular succulent known for its bright, colorful flowers and easy care. It's a hardy plant, but it does have specific needs to keep it thriving. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to care for your Kalanchoe plant:

Sunlight:

  • Kalanchoe loves bright, indirect sunlight. It can tolerate some direct sunlight, but too much can scorch its leaves, especially during the hottest part of the day.
  • If growing indoors, place it near a south or west-facing window to give it plenty of light.
  • Outdoor kalanchoes should be placed in a spot with partial sun, especially during the hottest months.

Water:

  • As a succulent, Kalanchoe is drought-tolerant and does not need frequent watering. In fact, overwatering is one of the most common causes of problems.
  • Water when the top inch or two of the soil is dry. Be sure the pot has good drainage, and avoid letting water sit in the saucer.
  • During the winter months or when the plant is dormant, you can reduce watering even more.

Temp:

  • Kalanchoe thrives in warm temperatures and does best between 60°F and 85°F (15°C to 29°C).
  • Keep it away from cold drafts or areas with temperatures below 50°F (10°C), as it is sensitive to frost.
  • It’s ideal for indoor environments, especially in places where temperatures stay warm year-round.
  • Kalanchoe prefers well-draining soil. A standard cactus or succulent mix works well, or you can add sand or perlite to your regular potting soil for better drainage.
  • Avoid heavy, clay-based soils that retain too much moisture.
