Corn Plant

Corn Plant

The Corn Plant (Dracaena fragrans), often referred to as Dracaena Fraceana or Fragrant Dracaena, is a popular indoor houseplant known for its tall, striking appearance and easy-care requirements. It's not related to the edible corn plant (Zea mays), but rather a species of evergreen shrub native to tropical Africa.

Sunlight:

Bright, indirect light is ideal for Dracaena fragrans. It can tolerate lower light conditions, but its growth may slow down, and the leaves may lose their vibrant color. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

Signs of Insufficient Light: If the plant is not receiving enough light, its leaves may become pale or leggy (stretched out).

Water:

Water the plant thoroughly when the top 1-2 inches (2.5-5 cm) of the soil feels dry. Dracaenas prefer to dry out a little between waterings rather than being kept constantly moist.

Avoid Overwatering: Overwatering can lead to root rot. Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent water from accumulating at the bottom.

Water Quality: Dracaena fragrans is sensitive to fluoride, so it's best to use distilled or non-chlorinated water if possible. Tap water with high fluoride content can cause leaf tip burn.

Temperature:

Dracaena fragrans prefers warm temperatures between 65°F to 75°F (18°C to 24°C). It should be protected from drafts and sudden temperature fluctuations.
